The famous Gladstone bag; named after British prime minister William Ewart Gladstone. A traveller, he recognised the benefits of this style of bag, which had been carefully constructed based on the shortfalls of other similar travel bags of that time (the 1800's).
They quickly became synonymous with class and refinery, and many world leaders followed suit.
J G Beard developed and patented the new hinged design from his leather shop in Westminster, as he sought to create a more robust, framed bag for what was fast becoming an era of growing travel.
What is so unique about our leather Gladstone bags are their combining this classic British design, with the world-renowned reputation of traditional Tuscan craftsmanship, using some of the finest leathers in the world. What could be better?
